Gary and Heather Newton are based in Canterbury, Kent, and have been hand designing and carving memorials in stone and wood for almost 20 years. All design, masonry, carving and installation is carried out in-house, ensuring that every commission is unique. Heather and Gary share the work between them, drawing on their backgrounds in fine art and design respectively, to produce beautifully-crafted, individual pieces. Gary specialises in concept development, design and production, whilst Heather uses her expertise in fine art to draw and carve exquisite decorative motifs. Both are qualified stone masons, and in addition to their memorial work are involved in the repair and conservation of historic buildings; Heather is Head of Stone at Canterbury Cathedral whilst Gary runs his own successful masonry business. This other facet to their work naturally influences their memorial designs, which have a distinct architectural feel, and often include Romanesque decoration and embellishment. Gary and Heather are available to work throughout the South East and London.
